About the Team and Facility
Smithton District Hospital (SDH) and Community Health Centre is a sub-acute public hospital located in Smithton, Tasmania, serving the Circular Head area with a population of about 8,000. The hospital has 12 subacute beds focusing on general medicine, post-acute care, palliative, and end-of-life care. It also operates a 3-bay emergency first response unit staffed by nurses and General Practitioners providing on-call medical services. Additionally, Smithton Community Services offers community nursing and home care within the Circular Head region.
Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive Maintenance Officer to join the Smithton District Hospital team. The role involves ensuring safe and efficient patient transfers, delivery of equipment, and courier services across the hospital and community services. Responsibilities also include performing non-trade maintenance tasks according to schedules, coordinating with site contractors, and maintaining site vehicle cleanliness and upkeep.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate safe, efficient patient transport and support local courier services for hospital and community services.
- Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks not requiring trade qualifications and manage interactions with visiting contractors.
- Maintain cleanliness and scheduled upkeep of hospital vehicles.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Possession of a valid current driver's licence is essential.
- Holding a First Aid Certificate is preferred but not mandatory.
- Successful completion of pre-employment checks is required upon recruitment.
Employment Details
- This is a permanent, full-time day worker position, working approximately 76 hours per fortnight, with hours negotiable upon offer.
- Immediate commencement is expected.
- Applicants should be aware that this selection process may also be used to fill future similar vacancies, including full-time, part-time, and casual roles, within 12 months of the advertisement date.
Salary and Benefits
- Annual salary ranges from $65,827 to $68,854, plus an additional 12% employer superannuation contribution.
- Position classified under the Health and Human Services (Tasmanian State Service) Award, General Stream, Operational Health Officer Level 2.
