About the Team

Oral Health Services Tasmania (OHST), part of Tasmania's Department of Health, offers public dental care for eligible residents, focusing on improving oral health for vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. OHST employs around 300 professionals including dentists, therapists, prosthetists, technicians, assistants, and admin staff, operating from 33 clinics statewide. Adult services are mainly provided through six major centers and three Special Care dental units in hospital precincts, while child and adolescent services operate primarily from 23 community clinics.

Role Overview

  • Deliver dental care adhering to agency and OHST guidelines to eligible adults and children in settings such as community clinics, hospital theatres, Special Care Dental Units, correctional facilities, and outreach services.
  • Provide specialized dental treatment for children beyond the scope of Dental and Oral Health Therapists, supporting these professionals within an integrated clinical team.
  • Contribute to the professional growth of team members including therapists, prosthetists, assistants, technicians, and newer dental officers by supervising students and mentoring recent graduates.

Candidate Profile

  • Strong foundational knowledge in dentistry with competence in pediatric dental care at a general practitioner level.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and collaborative knowledge sharing.
  • Current understanding of Public Health Dentistry principles and Minimal Intervention Dentistry, with dedication to enhancing service safety and quality.

Position Details

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Launceston, Tasmania, involving approximately 76 hours of work every two weeks, with working hours subject to negotiation. The salary range is $133,004 to $208,458 per annum (Dental Officers Agreement 2025), exclusive of a 12% employer superannuation contribution.
