Pest Management Officer

Overview

Join the Mackay Regional Council as a Pest Management Officer to contribute significantly towards environmental protection by managing invasive species across the region. This full-time role combines outdoor fieldwork, community interaction, and environmental care to support Council's Pest Management and Biosecurity Plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement targeted control measures for environmental weeds and invasive species according to relevant legislation and the Council's Pest Management Plan.
• Perform inspections and evaluate biosecurity risks within the community and environment.
• Prepare and deliver educational sessions, demonstrations, and public awareness initiatives to engage the community.
• Establish and maintain positive partnerships with landholders, community organizations, government bodies, and other key stakeholders.
• Oversee worksites to ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment and adherence to safety standards.
• Assist with the strategic planning and execution of pest management initiatives throughout the Mackay Regional Council jurisdiction.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• Must be able to successfully pass a Criminal History Check.
• Possession of an Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control (ACDC) or Herbicide Licence is mandatory.
• Holders of appropriate poisons and animal shooting licences for pest management, or the ability to acquire these within six months of starting, are required.
• Current Queensland "C" Class Driver Licence or capability to transfer an equivalent interstate licence within three months of employment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Demonstrated capacity to foster collaborative relationships with farmers, property owners, community stakeholders, and colleagues.
• Proficient in conflict resolution and problem-solving techniques.
• Ability to perform autonomously and cooperatively within team settings.
• Competence in using computer software relevant to the role.
• Sound knowledge of environmental weeds, invasive biosecurity threats, and effective control methods.
• Understanding of herbicide and pesticide environmental impacts and safe application standards.
• Desirable: Previous experience in pest management, biosecurity, natural resource or environmental management, related fields, and familiarity with local government risk management practices.

• Annual base salary of $86,710.
