Overview
Join a global technology leader with a significant R&D facility in Cambridge, contributing to the innovation of next-generation processor technologies. As a Performance Modelling Engineer, you will employ modelling, simulation, and workload characterisation to assess future CPU hardware designs, delivering insights that guide architectural strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine performance models targeting cutting-edge CPU microarchitectures.
- Create and sustain multiple simulation environments including cycle-accurate, cycle-approximate, trace-driven, and statistical models.
- Assess performance and power consumption impacts of new CPU architectural proposals.
- Perform trade-offs, sensitivity analysis, and cost-benefit evaluations of architectural options.
- Design tools and automated processes for comprehensive CPU performance evaluation.
- Implement visualization and analytical instruments to identify bottlenecks and optimization avenues.
- Analyze workload characteristics and translate these into architectural recommendations.
- Collaborate closely with CPU architects, software developers, and modelling experts.
- Support the assessment and optimization efforts for forthcoming processor designs.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of four years’ industrial experience in CPU performance modelling, architecture, or equivalent domains.
- Demonstrated practical expertise in CPU performance modelling and microarchitecture analysis.
- Experience with cycle-accurate, cycle-approximate, or functional simulation platforms.
- In-depth knowledge of CPU pipelines and standard metrics for architectural performance.
- Familiarity with CPU power and cache system modelling techniques.
- Strong proficiency in software engineering practices, including design, implementation, testing, and debugging.
- Understanding of Arm architecture specifics, particularly Armv8-A and/or Armv9-A.
- Experience in utilizing microarchitecture performance counters.
