Role Overview
This full-time position based in Bengaluru requires a PDF Accessibility Specialist responsible for reviewing and remediating PDFs to align with accessibility criteria. Key duties include establishing proper tagging structures, arranging correct reading order, and applying suitable headings, lists, and tables. The role demands daily creation of accurate alternative text for non-text elements like images and charts while ensuring compliance with standards such as WCAG and PDF/UA. The specialist will collaborate with production and quality assurance teams, perform in-depth accessibility evaluations, document issues and their resolutions, contribute to enhancing workflows, uphold best practices in accessibility, and assist in training or knowledge-sharing within the team.
Qualifications and Skills
- In-depth knowledge of PDF accessibility standards, including WCAG and PDF/UA guidelines.
- Hands-on experience with PDF remediation utilities and workflows, such as Adobe Acrobat or CommonLook.
- Skilled in composing clear and precise alternative text for images, graphs, and other complex visuals.
- Familiarity with EPUB conversion methods and accessible digital publishing techniques.
- Keen attention to detail, strong analytical capabilities, and competence working with both structured and unstructured documents.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, along with a collaborative approach within a team setting.
- Availability to work on-site in Bengaluru managing full-time responsibilities within deadline-driven production environments.
- Preferred background includes prior involvement in accessibility or digital publishing fields, understanding of screen readers and assistive technology, and qualifications such as a degree or diploma in Publishing, Design, IT, Communications, or related disciplines.
