About the Role

The University of Auckland, New Zealand's leading university with over 47,000 students and 6,000 staff, is seeking a creative Editor – Digital Content to join their Communications team. This role involves crafting compelling stories across multiple digital formats including video, photography, podcasting, and other multimedia. You will take ownership from story concept to production and publication, highlighting the University's people, research, and ideas, and supporting strategic communications and audience engagement nationally and internationally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce engaging digital storytelling content via video, photography, podcasting, and multimedia formats.
  • Identify and develop stories that align with University priorities, reputation building, media opportunities, and strategic messaging.
  • Manage the full production cycle from ideation through filming, audio capturing, editing, and publishing content digitally.
  • Stay current with digital trends, AI advances, new platforms, and evolving audience consumption behaviors.
  • Advise colleagues on crafting digital content that is accessible, engaging, and fit for purpose.

Candidate Profile

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in multimedia storytelling, journalism, communications, video production, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in producing high-quality video, photography, podcasting, and digital publishing content.
  • Strong technical proficiency in multimedia production encompassing filming, editing, and digital publishing workflows.
  • Insight into audience behaviors and adapting content for diverse channels and platforms.
  • Excellent editorial skills ensuring accuracy, quality, detail, and accessibility.
  • Effective relationship-building and collaboration abilities, capable of engaging with academics, researchers, and communication professionals.
  • Keen interest in emerging digital technologies, AI, platform analytics, and innovative storytelling methods.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and make informed decisions in a complex organizational environment.
  • Experience within media, tertiary education, or institutional communications is advantageous, as is familiarity with long-form digital storytelling tools like Shorthand.
