About the Company
Become part of a well-established, Australian-owned organisation with a longstanding presence in manufacturing and industrial sectors. The company operates 24/7 with a diverse workforce, making payroll a vital part of its operations. The existing payroll team is experienced and supportive, currently undergoing a significant payroll system upgrade.
Role Overview
As a Payroll Officer, you will manage a weekly payroll for about 450 employees primarily in manufacturing within a complex and rapidly moving environment. You will be responsible for end-to-end payroll administration, including timesheet management, data accuracy, and coordination with finance and external agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle the complete weekly payroll process, from timesheet collection to finalization
- Extract and verify employee hours using Kronos, then process them via MicroPay
- Maintain employee master records and update payroll changes accurately
- Process allowances, deductions, leaves, manual payments, back pays, and salary adjustments
- Analyze audit reports and resolve payroll discrepancies
- Oversee workers compensation payments and related reconciliations
- Complete reconciliations for payroll, superannuation, PAYG, and deductions, including uploads
- Prepare payroll tax submissions for NSW, Victoria, and WA
- Generate GL information and provide comprehensive payroll reports to the Finance department
- Address employee payroll inquiries and collaborate with external bodies such as the ATO and Centrelink
- Support the overall payroll team during high-demand periods
- Assist with transitioning payroll functions from MicroPay to SAP
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience managing end-to-end payroll in mid to large organisations, preferably with weekly payroll cycles
- Prior exposure to manufacturing, industrial, or award/EBA-regulated environments is highly advantageous
- Experience with MicroPay is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with Kronos or similar time & attendance systems
- Solid understanding of payroll tax, superannuation, PAYG, leave entitlements, and reconciliation procedures
- Ability to work under tight deadlines with large payroll volumes
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities for auditing and discrepancy resolution
- Collaborative mindset and teamwork skills
- Self-reliant with confidence to independently manage assigned payroll duties
- SAP experience is beneficial but not mandatory
