About the Role
Join a reputable Australian retail company as a Payroll Officer based in Melbourne. This role is integral to ensuring timely and accurate wage payments for a large, diverse employee base. Reporting to the Payroll Operations Manager, you will manage payroll data, compliance, and records while enhancing your payroll technical skills in a supportive environment. The position offers a hybrid work model with four days in the office and one day remote.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in complete payroll processing cycles, including handling off-cycle payments and adhering to deadlines.
- Manage employee lifecycle events such as onboarding, termination, salary modifications, transfers, and role changes.
- Address payroll-related queries through phone and email, escalating complex issues when necessary.
- Maintain detailed employee payroll information including leave balances, allowances, deductions, and superannuation records.
- Calculate payroll adjustments for terminations, back pay, long service leave, and similar items.
- Support payroll compliance, auditing activities, reporting, and participate in process improvement projects.
Candidate Profile
- Prior experience as a Payroll Officer, preferably in mid to large-sized businesses.
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll laws, awards, superannuation, and employment regulations.
- Exceptional attention to detail managing high workloads and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and a client-focused attitude.
- Familiarity with payroll software, specifically Preceda and/or Dayforce.
