Job description

Overview

The Payment Specialist role encompasses multiple key positions within payment processes, including monitoring daily payment transactions, leading payment operation teams, and managing refund analyses. Each role focuses on ensuring accurate and timely financial transaction execution, issue resolution, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement in a financial services environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track real-time payment flows across banking systems and payment gateways.
  • Detect, record, and rectify failed or delayed payments ensuring seamless operations.
  • Collaborate closely with IT teams, banks, and vendors to troubleshoot technical and transactional issues.
  • Manage payment reconciliation, reporting, and escalation procedures efficiently.
  • Lead and mentor payment operations teams to meet service level agreements and performance targets.
  • Prepare comprehensive performance and risk assessment reports for senior leadership.
  • Analyze taxpayer accounts to identify overpayments, reconcile refund batches, and process refunds in line with company policies and regulations.
  • Coordinate with billing, collections, audit, and other internal teams to enhance refund processing methods and financial controls.

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Information Systems, or related disciplines.
  • Advanced certifications such as CPA, CMA, CIMA, CAMS, or MBA offer added advantage depending on specific role.
  • Solid foundational knowledge of banking systems, payment gateway operations, and financial regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with ERP systems, particularly SAP FI/PSCD modules, strengthens refund analysis competencies.

Experience Requirements

  • 2 to 4 years in payment processing or banking operations for Payment Processing Officers.
  • 7 to 10 years in payment operations or financial services, including at least 3 to 5 years in leadership roles for Payment Operations Managers.
  • 3 to 5 years in financial operations, accounting, or auditing with emphasis on refund processes and ERP environment for Refund Analysts.
  • Proven hands-on experience with banking platforms, payment gateways, financial reconciliation, and interdepartmental collaboration.

Additional Information

This role involves significant interaction with internal departments like Finance, IT, and Taxpayer Services, as well as external entities including banks and vendors. Candidates should demonstrate a capacity to handle escalations, maintain accurate documentation, and uphold compliance standards. Effective communication skills and a proactive approach to process improvements are highly valued.
