Job description
Overview
This role is offered through a partner company seeking a P2P Node.js Engineer based in Saudi Arabia. It is a fully remote position concentrating on enhancing performance in peer-to-peer networking and distributed computing frameworks. The engineer will develop core networking and storage components rooted in Node.js and cutting-edge decentralized technologies, confronting challenges such as intermittent networks, low-latency data exchange, and scalable infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and enhance core peer-to-peer networking and storage functions using Node.js and JavaScript.
- Implement and fine-tune P2P protocols and networking strategies involving technologies like Kademlia, BitTorrent, libp2p, and hypercore.
- Develop networking solutions focused on high throughput, minimal latency, reliability, and resource optimization.
- Operate with TCP/IP and UDP stacks, manage NAT traversal, and enable communication in complex network conditions.
- Create custom binary protocols, serialization methods, and safe communication techniques.
- Utilize cryptographic methods to enable secure and trustworthy P2P communications.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize networked services to remove bottlenecks and improve performance.
- Advance the design of distributed systems resilient to unreliable networks.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams on sophisticated technical challenges and deliver production-level solutions.
Candidate Requirements
- In-depth understanding of peer-to-peer networks and protocols, notably Kademlia, BitTorrent, libp2p, and hypercore.
- Expertise in JavaScript and Node.js, especially in constructing efficient networked applications.
- Strong grasp of UDP, TCP/IP principles, and techniques for NAT traversal.
- Track record in optimizing performance and latency in network protocols and distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience designing custom binary and serialization protocols.
- Knowledge of cryptographic primitives and their usage in secure P2P interactions.
- Skill in profiling, debugging, and enhancing performance of network-dependent systems.
- Preferably a minimum of five years’ experience building production-ready P2P or distributed systems.
- Desirable familiarity with V8 engine internals, JavaScript performance nuances, libuv, and asynchronous I/O programming in C.
- Experience with Node.js native addons or integrating JavaScript with C is a plus.
- Contributions to open-source P2P or network libraries are advantageous.
- Excellent problem-solving aptitude, curiosity, and the ability to work autonomously in a fully remote setup.
- Strong English communication skills to effectively engage with a dispersed engineering team.
Benefits and Work Environment
- This position is entirely remote, allowing work from any location.
- Engage with challenging projects involving P2P networking, distributed architectures, and Node.js technology stacks.
- Become a part of a global, remote-first engineering team promoting innovation and excellence.
- Contribute to pioneering peer-to-peer applications and underlying infrastructure development.
- Gain experience with advanced networking concepts, cryptography, and performance tuning methods.
- Enjoy significant autonomy and responsibility over demanding engineering tasks.
- Opportunity to engage in open-source projects and contribute to community-driven technologies.
- Collaborative culture emphasizing technical mastery and continuous development.
