Role Overview

This position leads the end-to-end process of in-field data collection crucial to supporting farmers' decision-making by providing accurate insights on pastures and livestock. Responsibilities include designing data collection protocols, recruiting and managing regional contractors, and ensuring the quality and timely flow of data to feed our machine learning systems. The role is primarily office-based in Auckland but involves frequent field visits.

Primary Responsibilities

• Recruit, onboard, and maintain a network of regional contractors responsible for ground data collection.
• Develop and deliver training on data collection protocols, tools, and quality standards, updating them as necessary.
• Coordinate daily operations including scheduling, logistics, and managing seasonal workforce fluctuations.
• Create and document detailed protocols for gathering pasture, forage, and animal data.
• Evaluate and implement new data collection methods and technologies as the platform evolves.
• Regularly visit fields to test and refine protocols, identifying and resolving potential issues early.
• Ensure incoming data is consistent, accurate, and usable, establishing feedback loops with collectors and engineering teams.
• Expand datasets while balancing coverage, quality, and cost considerations.
• Collaborate with machine learning teams by translating model requirements into actionable data collection plans.
• Identify and communicate successes and challenges to guide future investments in data gathering.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience managing comprehensive data or annotation processes, encompassing quality control and schedule adherence.
• Ability to translate vague technical needs into clear operational procedures including definitions, exception handling, escalation protocols, and acceptance criteria.
• A strong bias for urgent, efficient execution recognizing the critical impact of timely data collection.
• A service-oriented attitude, enthusiastic about supporting cross-functional teams and contributing to their success.
