Job description
About the Role
We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Offshore Structural Wind Engineer to join our Offshore Engineering team at the Bangalore Global Technical Centre. This key role is focused on delivering advanced offshore engineering projects, especially concerning offshore substations (OSS) and offshore wind turbine generators (WTGs). The candidate should have practical expertise in all project phases from Concept & Feasibility through FEED to Detailed Engineering. Experience in fabrication, construction, and installation engineering on offshore projects will be an asset.
This position requires a robust background in structural and marine engineering, particularly in designing and analyzing both floating and fixed marine/offshore structures. The candidate will contribute substantially to structural integrity assessments, hydrodynamic modeling, marine operation planning, and system integration to ensure compliance with international standards while maintaining cost efficiency and constructability. This role offers the opportunity to lead multidisciplinary teams and play a vital role in the company's growth in the offshore renewable energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical delivery of offshore engineering projects with an emphasis on designing wind turbine generators and offshore substation platforms, including substructure and superstructure elements.
- Apply knowledge of foundation design concepts including soil parameter interpretation, casing piles, mud-mats, and suction piles.
- Innovate and develop design methods for WTG foundations, covering Monopile, Tripod, and 4-legged configurations.
- Conduct detailed structural analyses and produce design reports for offshore substation jackets and topsides, including assessments for ultimate limit state (ULS), serviceability (SLS), fatigue (FLS), and accidental limit states (ALS), employing advanced software tools.
- Manage preservice analyses such as lift, loadout, offshore transportation, stability on seabed, ship/boat impact assessments, crane fatigue design, and helideck design.
- Perform miscellaneous structural calculations, including pad eye, trunnion designs, and drop object analyses.
- Ensure designs adhere to relevant international codes and standards such as DNV, API, ISO, AISC, NORSOK, and EURO.
- Prepare comprehensive engineering reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications with a focus on technical rigor and verification.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, piping, and geotechnical teams to deliver integrated system solutions.
- Mentor junior engineers and facilitate knowledge sharing within the team.
- Communicate effectively with international clients and stakeholders.
- Travel as needed to project sites or partner offices for short-term assignments.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Offshore Structural Engineering.
- Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) in Ocean Engineering, Offshore Structures, or related fields are preferred along with substantial professional experience.
- Minimum 10 to 20 years in offshore engineering design, with specific expertise in offshore substations.
- Proven experience in oil & gas fixed structures, including platforms, jackets, and FPSOs.
- Track record of leading medium to large offshore projects independently across phases like FEED, detailed design, procurement, and construction support.
- Expertise in specialized structural and finite element analysis software: mandatory experience with SESAM Genie, SACS, Mathcad, MS Excel; familiarity with USFOS and Ansys is advantageous.
- Strong comprehension of offshore wave, wind loading, dynamic analysis, and knowledge of programming or scripting languages like Python or VBA for automation is desirable.
- Deep understanding of structural mechanics including fatigue, stability, buckling, and dynamic loading.
- Thorough familiarity with various international standards and codes (API, DNV, ISO, AISC, EURO, NORSOK).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, project management, and leadership skills with the ability to operate in a multicultural environment.
- Willingness to travel internationally when required.
Benefits and Rewards
