MYP/DP Librarian

Job Overview

The MYP/DP Librarian leads the Secondary School library, transforming it into an academic learning and research hub that serves students and faculty within the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). The position aims to enhance students' skills in research, information literacy, academic integrity, independent learning, and proficient use of both print and digital media.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations and long-term planning of the Secondary School library.
• Create an academic atmosphere conducive to research, group study, and independent learning.
• Instruct students on research methodologies, information evaluation, referencing, and citation practices.
• Provide targeted support to DP students for their Extended Essays, Internal Assessments, and other research assignments.
• Advocate for academic integrity by educating students on plagiarism, copyright laws, responsible AI use, and ethical information handling.
• Collaborate closely with MYP and DP educators to design inquiry-led lessons and select suitable learning materials.
• Facilitate development of key Approaches to Learning skills, including research, communication, and time management.
• Offer personalized and small-group guidance for student research projects.
• Curate and maintain a relevant collection of books, journals, databases, e-books, and digital resources aligned with curricular and cultural needs.
• Manage library systems such as cataloguing, circulation, subscriptions, procurement, and periodic stocktaking.
• Analyze library usage data and feedback to guide ongoing enhancements.
• Encourage reading both for academic growth and leisure.
• Organize author visits, reading campaigns, research workshops, and other academic events.
• Maintain an orderly, welcoming, and properly supervised library environment.
• Ensure adherence to safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection policies.
• Engage in school events, ongoing professional development, and wider community activities.

Qualifications and Experience

• Preferred: recognized qualification in library science, information management, or teaching.
• Experience in secondary, international schools, universities, or academic library settings.
• Strong preference for experience with IB MYP and/or DP students.
• Knowledge of the IB Extended Essay process and standards for academic integrity advantageous.
• Familiarity with library management software, research databases, and digital learning tools.
• Proficient command of English, both written and verbal.
