Role Overview

The Munitions Crew Chief is the lead team member responsible for managing the receipt, storage, inspection, transportation, and upkeep of munitions and related resources for the U.S. Air Force at the assigned site. This position includes operating specialized munitions systems like the Theater Integrated Combat Munitions Systems (TICMS) and MC2, as well as supervising assigned Munitions Technicians. The role demands adherence to the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and compliance with Amentum's ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce strict compliance with USAF and host nation standards related to explosives safety, AFOSH, and security during all munitions-related and general operations both on site and at temporary duty locations.
  • Report any issues that could impact munitions operations promptly to Munitions Control and the Superintendent.
  • Manage emergency situations decisively and coordinate timely response efforts.
  • Maintain quality control by following established processes, identifying issues proactively, and proposing corrective measures.
  • Oversee multiple simultaneous operations to ensure they align with set priorities, objectives, and schedules.
  • Act as the Munitions Supervisor during their absence.
  • Repair, recondition, and replace defective or missing munitions and container components as necessary.
  • Handle munitions storage and maintenance activities in line with stringent explosives safety standards.
  • Conduct warehouses inventories, investigate and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to resolve concerns regarding serviceability and accountability noted during warehouse procedures.
  • Prepare and pack munitions for air, sea, and surface shipment.
  • Load and unload trucks with inbound and outbound munitions consignments.
  • Assist in munitions inspections following protocols 11A-1-10 and applicable technical orders.
  • Aid in inspecting munitions brass, residue, and containers as per 11A-1-60 when directed.
  • Operate TICMS systems relevant to site requirements.
  • Inspect, maintain, and operate light vehicles and handling equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual hoists.
  • Operate metal strapping devices, stencil machines, heat sealers, pneumatic paint guns, air compressors, and power tools, performing inspections and minor repairs as needed.
  • Conduct light maintenance and cleaning of facilities, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Deliver safety briefings focused on general workplace and explosives safety.
  • Assess crew members' technical proficiency, provide necessary training, and ensure compliance with standards.
  • If qualified, manage the loading/unloading and transport of munitions shipments to and from flightline holding areas and internal operations.
  • Coordinate communications between crew members and Munitions Supervisors to promote smooth operations.
  • Perform entry-control duties as required to maintain secure operations.
  • Commit to working extended or standby hours during routine and contingency operations to support mission requirements.
  • Work environments include office, maintenance shops, warehouses, and outdoor settings for prolonged periods.

Required Qualifications

  • Intermediate expertise with USAF Supply, TMO, Munitions, and Technical Order systems or equivalent military service experience.
  • Proficiency in personal computers operating Windows OS and Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience operating material handling machinery.
  • Valid driver's license from home country and capability to obtain host nation driver's license.
  • High School diploma or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum four years of military munitions experience.
  • No convictions for domestic violence (Lautenberg Amendment compliance).
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship mandatory for clearance).
  • Compliance with wearing prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) as per task requirements.
  • Physical ability to perform duties including lifting, pushing, or pulling weights of at least 50 lbs.
  • Availability for domestic and international travel as necessary.
  • Normal color vision and depth perception capabilities.

Preferred Experience and Education

  • Broad knowledge across all munitions functional areas preferred.
  • Intermediate familiarity with MC2 and other related information systems preferred.
  • Experience with USAF procedures for munitions storage, maintenance, control, and inspection favored.
  • Hands-on experience with TICMS, CAS, MC2, TMRS, IMDS, and MMHE desirable.
  • At least two years experience as a Munitions Crew Chief preferred.
  • Intermediate skills in operating forklifts and tractor trailers advantageous.
  • Associate degree (CCAF) in Munitions Management is an asset.
