About the Engineering Team

The engineering group comprises 5 to 9 focused professionals working at a multi-product technology SaaS company. The team handles projects involving personalization, recommendation engines, fraud detection, and Generative AI, utilizing real-time, near-real-time, and batch data processing pipelines. It consists of Python backend engineers, machine learning engineers, manual and automation QA specialists, data engineers, and data scientists. Their collective mission is to convert data scientists' experimental findings into robust, production-ready systems, either as standalone services or integrated within larger platforms.

Role Description

As a Middle Python Software Engineer, you will collaborate with senior engineers and a highly involved engineering manager to build and maintain production backend systems. You will take full ownership of your projects and progressively tackle more complex challenges.

The backend systems you work on may be components of a broader SaaS backend or independent services, including batch and event-driven pipelines, stream consumers, feature stores, RESTful APIs, scheduled jobs, and background workers.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain production-grade Python services such as APIs, stream consumers, data pipelines, feature stores, scheduled jobs, and background workers.
• Develop and optimize SQL queries and database schemas essential to these services.
• Maintain high engineering standards covering code quality, testing protocols, observability, and disciplined deployment processes.
• Translate data scientists' experiments into dependable, production-level services.
• Identify, diagnose, and resolve production issues effectively.
• Participate actively in system design discussions and planning implementation strategies.
• Conduct code reviews to enhance overall team output quality.
• Engage in on-call rotations to support systems you develop and maintain.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• At least 3 years of experience in backend development.
• Advanced proficiency in Python, including asynchronous programming, data processing, and working knowledge of Redis, Kafka, and database client libraries.
• Strong expertise in database technologies — skilled in complex SQL queries, query plan analysis, index optimization, transaction management, isolation levels, and concurrency control.
• Experience with both relational and non-relational database systems and the ability to determine appropriate use cases for each.
• Familiarity with Docker and CI/CD processes to collaborate effectively with DevOps teams.
• Proven experience managing and supporting a service in production environment.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with graph databases such as Neo4j.
• Understanding of PostgreSQL internals, including MVCC, autovacuum, bloat management, partitioning, and connection pooling.
• Knowledge of PySpark and Databricks platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes orchestration.
• Background in building systems powered by large language models (LLMs), including vector store implementation.
• Exposure to fraud detection, recommendation systems, or personalization platforms.
• Experience with monitoring technologies like Prometheus and Grafana.
• Previous work in SaaS or high-scale product environments.
