Within 18 months, their clinical AI solutions have efficiently processed 73 million patient visits, currently supporting over 2.5 million patient sessions weekly across more than 190 countries. Their mission focuses on doubling global healthcare capacity while enhancing the vital human connection within medicine.
Role Overview
Heidi is seeking a Mid Level AI Models Engineer to collaborate in developing AI solutions tailored for enterprise customers, offering improved economics over closed-source models like Claude, Gemini, and OpenAI. The role involves working across areas such as model customization, deployment, agent system development, and customer delivery. Applicants should have solid expertise in at least two of these key domains and are expected to work collaboratively on the others.
Responsibilities
- Translate client use cases into detailed training and evaluation strategies for AI models.
- Choose appropriate data sets, models, and training methodologies.
- Fine-tune and rigorously assess models for application in specialized domains.
- Continuously enhance model quality based on iterative testing and operational feedback.
- Devise cost-effective deployment strategies either in cloud or on-premises environments.
- Determine optimal infrastructure and serving configurations to ensure efficient model inference.
- Enhance system reliability, reduce latency, and minimize operating expenses.
- Implement robust monitoring, backup, and recovery mechanisms for production systems.
- Create agent workflows integrating language models with customer data, tools, and existing platforms.
- Add necessary controls and observability features to support reliable production use.
- Collaborate with customers to thoroughly understand their needs, limitations, and preferences.
- Communicate trade-offs involving quality, cost, privacy, and complexity effectively.
- Guide AI solutions through the lifecycle from initial discovery stages through to live production deployment.
Candidate Profile
- Proven practical experience in at least two areas among model customization, deployment, agent systems, and customer delivery.
- Hands-on involvement in building or maintaining production AI systems.
- Strong background in software engineering or machine learning engineering principles.
- Familiarity with open-weight language models and contemporary large language model ecosystems.
- Sound judgment balancing model quality, operational cost, latency, and reliability considerations.
- Capability to navigate ambiguous technical challenges and diverse customer requirements.
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
Work Culture and Values
- Focus on long-term impact over short-term gains, tackling ambitious goals for global health improvement.
- Proactive problem-solving and leadership, often addressing future needs ahead of demand.
- Data-driven and patient-centered approaches, prioritizing real-world outcomes and humility.
- Accountability and ownership of outcomes, actively contributing to company success.
- Rapid iteration and delivery mindset, valuing speed paired with precision.
- Understanding of actual clinical workflows and the challenges faced by healthcare professionals.
Benefits and Inclusion
- An annual $1,000 learning and development allowance.
- A monthly $150 health and wellness stipend.
- A $500 budget for home office setup.
- 26 weeks of paid primary parental leave and 18 weeks of paid secondary parental leave.
- Fertility assistance up to $10,000.
- Opportunity for four weeks of work-from-anywhere annually.
- Equity participation in the company.
Heidi fosters an equitable, inclusive work environment that values diversity across backgrounds and perspectives. The company is committed to equal opportunity employment and celebrates differences as a strength in building a supportive culture.
