Job description
Role Overview
The Merchandising Manager position at the Ottawa Train Yards Michaels store requires overnight and midnight availability. This role is central to driving merchandising and operational excellence, including managing truck processing, maintaining inventory routines, executing planograms, and upholding visual merchandising standards. The position demands strong organizational skills to ensure accurate pricing, timely promotional roll-outs, and a customer-ready store atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Store Manager to enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and company guidelines, ensuring full compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Hold team members accountable for upholding company policies and maintaining optimal store conditions and outcomes.
- Provide leadership coverage as Manager-on-Duty (MOD), sustaining floor operations, customer service standards, and continuity.
- Coordinate and oversee unloading and sorting of merchandise shipments to ensure smooth delivery to sales areas.
- Plan and prioritize daily workloads, aligning staffing with business demands alongside store leadership.
- Implement and maintain Store-In-Stock Optimization (SISO) processes to improve stock levels, replenishment accuracy, and sales readiness.
- Ensure timely and accurate execution of planograms and visual merchandising setups according to company expectations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing store environment, including backroom upkeep and sales floor recovery.
- Manage inventory control functions focusing on accuracy, integrity, and efficient stock flow.
- Carry out the placement of promotional materials and ad sets to maximize customer engagement and compliance.
- Complete pricing updates accurately and punctually to preserve pricing integrity across merchandise and systems.
- Supervise Ship from Store order fulfillment including picking, packing, and shipment accuracy.
- Handle Return to Vendor (RTV) processes and ASN receiving with precise documentation and inventory adjustments.
- Manage store damage protocols to mitigate shrinkage and ensure proper reporting and handling.
- Train and develop team members with structured onboarding and continuous skill enhancement initiatives.
- Contribute to strong Asset Protection practices to minimize loss through compliance and safety awareness.
Minimum Experience and Skills
- At least three years of leadership experience in a retail environment.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Must be capable of standing for extended periods and moving throughout the store.
- Engage in physical activities such as bending, lifting (up to 25-50 pounds), carrying, reaching, and stretching.
- Competent to climb ladders or step stools for stocking and retrieving merchandise.
- Perform repetitive actions like item scanning, shelf stocking, and POS operation.
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced retail setting with frequent customer interaction.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and early morning shifts.
Additional Information
Applicants within Canada must meet all federal, provincial, and local job legal requirements. The employer is actively hiring to fill this position. The base pay range ranges from $18.60 to $22.90 per hour.
