Job description
Overview
The Technical Officer at ITE College Central's School of Engineering is responsible for supporting the smooth operation and upkeep of laboratories, workshops, and broader college facilities. This role entails managing assets and inventory, handling procurement activities, and ensuring a safe, well-maintained training environment that meets institutional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain engineering laboratories and workshops, including managing equipment, tools, and training systems.
- Perform routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on lab and workshop apparatus while ensuring facilities are tidy and orderly.
- Manage inventory processes such as asset tagging, stock control, and conducting periodic inventory audits.
- Carry out procurement tasks, sourcing quotations from vendors, and managing purchases of equipment, consumables, and training materials.
- Prepare and issue training materials and ensure the readiness of labs and workshops for practical training and evaluation sessions.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and institutional policies regarding equipment handling and facility operations.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to maintenance, inventory, procurement, and safety records, and assist in audits including ISO inspections.
- Take care of college facilities related to laboratories and workshops and perform other operational or administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of credentials in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline.
- Experience in laboratory, workshop, or technical support roles.
- Familiarity with asset management, inventory control, and procurement processes.
- Understanding of safety procedures and maintenance requirements in lab/workshop environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting purposes.
- Strong organizational abilities with keen attention to detail.
- Capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Effective communication and coordination skills.
- Openness to learning and adapting to new systems or procedures.
