This Mechanical Estimator position, based in Oakville, Ontario, involves preparing, reviewing, and presenting detailed discipline estimates for project proposals. The role supports project teams by developing conceptual estimates, performing cost analyses, and maintaining historical cost databases. The incumbent will assist in establishing department procedures and guide others in estimating specific tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate installation quantities using drawings and specifications
  • Generate detailed cost estimates for significant projects locally and across Canada
  • Deliver comprehensive estimates for large and complex scope work
  • Analyze owner plans and specifications to deeply understand project requirements and devise construction plans as a foundation for estimates
  • Examine tender and contract documents, incorporating input from the legal department
  • Coordinate with planning, scheduling, procurement, and proposal teams
  • Communicate estimates effectively to management and external clients
  • Maintain professional, trustworthy relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Collaborate with the estimating team to foster continuous improvements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent mechanical estimating experience
  • More than 5 years of mechanical estimating experience on major projects
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian construction market
  • Proficient English communication skills; French language skills are preferred
  • Skilled in presentations and negotiations
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with Bluebeam software advantageous
  • Experience in industrial, hydro, oil and gas, and mining sectors is desirable
  • Willingness to travel for site visits or client meetings related to estimates
  • Highly organized, adaptable, detail-focused, collaborative, and capable of managing multiple tasks
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines amidst shifting demands

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range is $90,000 to $140,000 annually, with variation based on education, experience, skills, and location.
