Job description
About the Role
Mercor serves as a bridge between top technical experts and premier AI research institutions. With headquarters in San Francisco and backing from notable investors like Benchmark and General Catalyst, the company offers a contract opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Expert working remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Devise complex enterprise mechanical engineering scenarios relevant to product design lifecycles, involving collaboration with multiple stakeholders for design assessments and meeting manufacturing or regulatory certification requirements at Fortune 500 companies.
- Perform tasks encompassing product design, CAD modeling, thermal and fluid system evaluations, structural and stress testing, manufacturing process development, and reliability and failure assessments within large-scale enterprises.
- Utilize professional engineering software such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, CATIA, MATLAB/Simulink, alongside PLM systems like Siemens Teamcenter or PTC Windchill, to develop engineering solutions in Fortune 500 contexts.
- Apply structured mechanical engineering techniques including FEA/CFD simulations, design for manufacturability and assembly standards, Six Sigma methodologies, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to generate design specifications, comprehensive analyses, and high-level technical documentation.
- Create evaluative frameworks that differentiate expert-level mechanical engineering judgment from basic academic knowledge.
Qualifications
- Over five years of experience serving as a mechanical engineer or technical lead within leading industrial, automotive, aerospace, or manufacturing companies among Fortune 500 enterprises (examples include GE, Boeing, Caterpillar, Ford, Honeywell).
- Proven direct responsibility for product design, manufacturing workflows, or engineering certification initiatives at a Fortune 500 scale.
- Proficiency with enterprise-grade mechanical engineering tools and methodologies, coupled with an understanding of safety standards, regulatory certifications (ISO, FAA, FDA), and multi-disciplinary design governance practiced in large corporations.
- Preferred candidates will have prior experience in authoring engineering rubrics, training curricula, or design documentation.
