Job Overview

This role involves assisting customers and preparing meat products according to specific size, quality, and trimming standards for sale. The Meat Cutter supports daily operations within the meat and seafood sections, ensuring compliance with operating protocols to foster customer loyalty and trust. Freshness and product appeal, along with courteous and knowledgeable service, are key focal points. Additionally, merchandising initiatives are implemented following departmental guidelines while monitoring product levels, shrinkage, and sales trends. Key Duties

  • Create a welcoming environment for customers, making them feel valued to enhance confidence and repeat business.
  • Prepare and package a range of food products such as fresh and smoked meats, seafood, lunch meats, frozen and salted meats, adhering to production standards.
  • Cut and trim meat products using predetermined peak time cutting lists aligned with company policies.
  • Wrap, weigh, price, cube, slice, and grind meat products as required.
  • Use department-specific equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
  • Fulfill customer requests and special orders accurately.
  • Perform duties of meat/seafood counter clerk when necessary.
  • Promote teamwork and open communication while adhering to company and regulatory guidelines.
  • Manage product stocking and rotation to maintain freshness and minimize waste; inspect incoming shipments and monitor inventory accuracy.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, sanitation, food handling practices, and food safety regulations including USDA, COOL, and DOA compliance.
  • Execute product recalls promptly and ensure affected items are secured and removed from sales floor.
  • Recognize and report unsafe conditions, accidents, or illegal activities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Ensure proper use and availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintain equipment in good working order.

Additional Terms and Working Conditions

  • The position requires standing or walking on various floor types, manual dexterity, talking, seeing, hearing, smelling, and repetitive hand/foot motions.
  • Physical demands include reaching at waist or overhead, lifting up to 70 lbs, carrying or pushing loads up to 250 lbs, and occasional kneeling, crouching, balancing, climbing up to 10 feet.
  • Work environments include indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, humid, and wet conditions.
  • Safety risks include exposure to slippery floors, hazardous tools, sharp objects, loud noise, irritants, dust, fumes, sprays, cleaning chemicals, and other toxins.
  • Usage of equipment such as slicers, saws, grinders, various knives, wrapping machines, ice machines, and other general hardware tools is required.
  • Personal protective items like goggles, gloves (cutting, fryer, oven), and back braces are provided and must be used accordingly.
  • Shifts vary and occasional travel (without overnight) may be expected.

Qualifications and Compliance

  • Minimum age requirement: 18 years.
  • Authorization to work in the United States or ability to obtain the same is mandatory.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Strong customer service aptitude with excellent interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency in math.
  • Capability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations.
  • Proficiency with knife handling and cutting speed.
  • Keen knowledge of cutting, traying, wrapping, and labeling meat products.
  • Experience requirements include 0 to 3 years in supervisory roles (preferred but not mandatory).
