Full-Time Grocery Associate

About the Role

The Grocery Associate position supports the department manager in driving sales and profit objectives in the grocery department. This role involves replenishing store products, maintaining a welcoming environment, and ensuring compliance with operational standards. The associate is instrumental in delivering fresh, well-presented products alongside courteous and knowledgeable service, fostering customer loyalty. Key Responsibilities

• Devote 70% of time to customer service by creating a positive shopping atmosphere where customers feel valued and supported.
• Merchandise products according to planograms, maintain shelf pricing and signage accuracy, and keep product availability fresh and rotated.
• Assist customers proactively in locating or recommending items.
• Lead by fostering trust, teamwork, and clear communication among team members, contributing 10% of focus to leadership activities.
• Observe inventory conditions, address discrepancies, and inspect products for quality and proper temperature control, allocating 10% effort to financial and inventory management.
• Uphold safety, sanitation, and food handling standards in compliance with federal and state regulations, including USDA, COOL, and DOA guidelines.
• Execute product recalls promptly and ensure products are securely removed from customer access.
• Identify and report safety hazards, accidents, illegal activity, and adhere to wage and hour policies.
• Support a culture of safety by ensuring training completion, proper equipment maintenance, and usage of personal protective equipment.

Qualifications and Candidate Profile

• Minimum age requirement of 16 years.
• Eligibility to work in the United States or obtain such authorization.
• Successful clearance of pre-employment drug screening and background check.
• Strong customer service skills with excellent interpersonal, motivational, and communication abilities.
• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• English language skills required; Spanish language skills are advantageous.
• Between zero and three years of supervisory experience preferred.

Environmental and Physical Requirements

This role involves standing, walking, repetitive hand and foot movements, reaching overhead and waist level, lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing/pulling loads up to 250 lbs, and occasional kneeling, crouching, balancing, and climbing up to 30 feet. Work settings vary from indoor, outdoor, cold, warm, and damp environments. Safety risks include slippery floors, hazardous equipment, sharp objects, noise, dust, fumes, and chemical exposure. Use of cleaning supplies, material handling devices (racks, carts, pallet jacks), and equipment such as cash registers and scanners is required. Personal protective gear including goggles, gloves, and back braces will be utilized.

Shift and Travel Details

The position involves varying shifts to meet department needs with occasional travel but no overnight stays.

Additional Policies for Associates Under 18

• Youth workers are prohibited from operating balers, compactors, ladders, certain powered equipment, and using knives beyond approved safety tools.
• Must comply with child labor law work hour restrictions and company minor employment policies.
