Job Overview

The Meat Clerk is responsible for receiving, rotating, wrapping, and merchandising fresh and processed meat products. Additional duties include assisting with seafood, rotisserie chickens, prepared foods, and cheeses. Providing excellent customer service through answering questions and offering product recommendations is essential, along with maintaining cleanliness and ensuring safety standards in the department.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer assistance by responding to inquiries about meats, poultry, and seafood and suggesting products when appropriate.
• Weigh, package, wrap, and label meat, poultry, and seafood items, including grinding hamburger meat as needed.
• Inspect meat deliveries to ensure all products meet quality standards, and properly store merchandise.
• Maintain fully stocked and organized cases for meat, seafood, prepared foods, and cheeses with proper rotation and disposal of expired or damaged goods.
• Receive and unpack shipments in meat cooler and freezer areas.
• Clean and sanitize all meat department equipment, fixtures, and refrigerated cases regularly.
• Follow all club policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines.
• Assist with duties in other departments when required.
• Maintain reliable and consistent attendance as a critical job function.

Qualifications

• Experience with fresh and processed meats is preferred.
• Familiarity with automatic and hand wrapping machines is advantageous.
• Previous work in meat or deli departments is a plus.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Work involves frequent movement on hard surfaces and occasional bending, lifting, stretching, or stooping to examine merchandise.
• Lifting up to 30 pounds regularly with occasional need for assistance with heavier or awkward items.
• Work setting is primarily indoor with limited exposure to extreme temperatures and noise; occasional contact with cleaning chemicals may occur.

Compensation

The estimated pay range is $16.75 to $20.10 per hour; compensation may vary based on location, experience, education, and qualifications.
