Maintenance Lead

About The Role

We are looking for a seasoned Maintenance Lead to join our Operations team in Liverpool. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this role involves overseeing all site maintenance activities, managing engineering resources, stores, procurement, and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules. You will coordinate engineering work orders, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and uphold engineering standards across the site.

As a hands-on leader within the Engineering department, your main focus will be enhancing equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and safety by efficiently planning, prioritizing, and coordinating both internal and external engineering resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive preventative maintenance planning and support initiatives to improve equipment reliability.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to prioritize maintenance tasks.
• Oversee critical equipment identification, inspection programs, and ensure statutory compliance.
• Maintain and enhance the site's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Analyze performance metrics such as OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), MTTR (Mean Time To Repair), and budget adherence to promote continuous improvements.
• Implement Lean principles, Asset Care Excellence, and Root Cause Analysis techniques.
• Support and develop engineering standards related to the design, maintenance, inspection, and management of mechanical and electrical assets.
• Ensure compliance with legal regulations while optimizing lifecycle costs and aligning with business goals.
• Provide strong leadership, continuously raising engineering standard benchmarks.
• Pursue ongoing professional growth through training, industry networking, and skills development.
• Lead, coach, and develop the maintenance team, including monitoring attendance, performance, and competencies, partnering with HR as needed.
• Set and review team and individual KPIs to enhance accountability and performance.
• Promote a culture of employee engagement, responsibility, and excellent housekeeping.
• Ensure adherence to site Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) standards, including risk assessments, permit-to-work (PTW) systems, and relevant legislation.
• Champion safe working systems across all site operations.
• Drive ongoing improvement in site safety performance.
• Maintain familiarity with key regulatory frameworks such as ATEX/DSEAR, PSSR, PUWER, and LOLER.
• Develop risk assessments and manage permit-to-work processes.

Experience & Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
• Proven experience in a process manufacturing environment covering maintenance, projects, chemical processes, and equipment selection.
• Strong understanding of process safety management and best practices in maintenance.
• Experience working with CMMS and Permit to Work systems.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing maintenance teams across multiple shifts, including performance management and development.
• IOSH qualification is desirable.
• Experience working within a DSEAR-regulated environment is considered a plus.
• Familiarity with budget management and financial control is advantageous.

You are commercially minded, adaptable, and resilient, capable of managing competing demands while supporting Lean initiatives and change efforts.

Additional Information

This position requires the candidate to provide five years of employment and education references, undergo a DBS check, and complete a health assessment prior to starting.
