Role Overview
We are looking for a Maintenance Fitter to join our dedicated, small maintenance team at the Dynex manufacturing site in Avondale. The role is full-time, working Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. This is a dynamic position suited for someone with mechanical aptitude who thrives in a fast-moving manufacturing setting. The successful candidate will be expected to work both independently and collaboratively, demonstrating a continuous improvement mindset with a focus on safe, efficient, and reliable plant and equipment operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical maintenance tasks including repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance.
- Maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Welding (MIG, TIG, stick) and machining skills are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns as needed.
- Manage spare parts procurement via store requisitions.
- Collaborate with electrical personnel to diagnose and resolve issues.
- Participate in capital projects and continuous improvement activities.
- Use computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), specifically MEX, to log daily work activities.
- Adhere strictly to occupational health and safety protocols.
Candidate Profile
- Must hold a trade qualification at Level 4 in Fitting and Turning or dual trades qualifications are highly regarded.
- Have between 3 to 5 years’ experience in a similar maintenance fitter role within manufacturing sectors like plastics, FMCG, or heavy industry.
- Experience or knowledge of extrusion processes, water treatment, raw material handling, granulation, pumps, and related machinery is highly preferred.
- Hands-on approach with flexibility to be on call for unexpected breakdowns.
- Strong team player with effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated capability in mechanical maintenance, including shutdowns, breakdowns, and preventative tasks.
- Proficient in using CMMS software, preferably MEX.
- Excellent time management, coordination, and prioritization skills with strong attention to detail.
- Possession of a current driver’s licence and own transport.
- Licences for Elevated Work Platform (EWP), White Card, and forklift operation are advantageous.
- Must be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident with unrestricted work rights.
