About the Team

The newly created Conversation Platform team focuses on building a comprehensive conversational interface for all merchants using Stripe. This involves automating straightforward tasks and supporting users in complex scenarios. Examples include personalizing the Stripe landing page to recommend tailored integrations, enabling natural language commands for the Stripe API, and automated resolution of user issues. The team develops retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems leveraging the latest large language models (LLMs) along with fine-tuning proprietary models. This is a full lifecycle team taking ideas through to production deployment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and drive an ambitious vision for AI and machine learning technologies to deliver user benefits.
• Define technical direction and team processes aligned with strategic business objectives.
• Collaborate closely with partner teams to ideate and plan product integrations.
• Innovate through proposing concepts and developing prototypes rapidly.
• Engage actively within both internal and external machine learning communities.
• Recruit and cultivate a world-class team to build reliable, high-quality ML systems.
• Mentor and support engineers to foster career growth and maintain high engineering standards.

Candidate Profile

• Passionate about applying machine learning to enhance product experiences and delight customers.
• Experience managing machine learning teams for at least 4 years and prior hands-on experience as an ML engineer or applied scientist.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguous situations with a proactive, action-oriented approach.
• Proven ability to build, deploy, and maintain streaming feature pipelines and ML models at scale, often involving backend system modifications.
• Strong leadership in high-growth and high-impact environments, emphasizing accountability and quality in production systems.
• Adept in collaborating across multifunctional teams.

Preferred Experience

• Proficiency in developing and shipping systems incorporating large language models and retrieval-augmented generation.

Work Location Expectations

Employees designated to office locations are expected to spend at least half their monthly work time onsite or engaging directly with users. This may vary based on team, role, and location. Certain teams and delivery centers require full-time office presence. This hybrid approach balances in-person collaboration and flexibility.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary for this role in Toronto ranges from CA$244,100 to CA$366,100, subject to adjustment by location. For sales roles, this includes target earnings encompassing base pay plus commissions and bonuses. Final compensation depends on experience, role level, and location. Additional benefits may include equity, company bonuses, retirement plans, health coverage, and wellness stipends.
