Position Overview

The Machine Learning Engineer will develop, implement, and maintain robust machine learning modules within IMDEX's Digital Orebody Knowledge (OBK) solutions. Reporting to Senior ML Engineers and the AI Lead, this role converts data-science prototypes into production-level, well-tested, maintainable ML services and pipelines. The role collaborates extensively with Geo-Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and Product Managers to deliver, optimize, and improve machine learning features and the internal ML platform called Nexus.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design, test, and deploy dependable ML features, models, and data pipelines.
• Produce clean, maintainable, documented, and thoroughly tested Python code aligned with IMDEX engineering standards.
• Enhance and contribute to the Nexus ML platform including reusable components, templates, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams including Geo-Data Scientists, Product Managers, and Software Engineers throughout the discovery, development, and release phases.
• Conduct rigorous experimentations, benchmarking, model validation, and error analysis using strong validation methodologies.
• Identify opportunities to improve model accuracy, deployment efficiency, maintainability, and overall technical quality.
• Assist with technical scoping, feasibility studies, estimations, documentation, and demonstration of ML solutions.
• Communicate clearly the progress, risks, blockers, and dependencies to technical teams and project stakeholders.
• Take accountability for assigned tasks, collaborate effectively, welcome feedback, and address issues proactively.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Data Science, or related discipline.
• Demonstrated proficiency coding production-grade Python applications.
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, and pandas.
• Understanding of machine learning lifecycle, including model validation and performance monitoring.
• Experience with cloud-based or containerized environments utilizing Docker and implementing CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary groups.
• Experience using MLOps tools, including model registries, automated evaluations, and drift monitoring.
• Knowledge of geoscience or spatial data concepts.
• Contributions to documentation, playbooks, or internal training/enabling resources.
