Job Summary

The role involves creating advanced Agentic AI capabilities within Payroll by melding business insights and engineering expertise to automate and expand operational capacity. As an AI / API Engineer, you will develop agentic AI solutions that integrate with enterprise systems and also mentor payroll professionals transitioning into AI development roles. This position balances hands-on engineering work, solution architecture, and capability-building.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Design and implement AI-driven workflows leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) such as OpenAI or Azure OpenAI.
• Create complex multi-step agentic AI solutions combining reasoning, tools, and data integration.
• Ensure AI solutions’ scalability, reliability, and accuracy in output.
• Develop and maintain REST API integrations including authentication (OAuth, tokens) and data exchange, linking AI with internal enterprise systems.
• Handle both structured and unstructured data from diverse sources efficiently.
• Partner with payroll subject matter experts to translate business challenges into scalable AI and API architectures.
• Deliver production-grade solutions beyond mere prototypes.
• Support internal talent development by mentoring and upskilling payroll professionals into AI engineering roles through guidance, code reviews, and best practices.
• Contribute to building a strong internal AI engineering function.
• Adopt software engineering best practices, including writing clean, maintainable code, effective error handling, logging, and debugging.
• Develop reusable components and scalable design patterns to enhance AI solutions’ robustness.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• 6 to 8 years of experience in software development or related technical fields.
• Proven track record of delivering practical, real-world AI and engineering solutions (not just prototypes or academic projects).
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B.Tech or BE) or equivalent in computer science or related discipline.

Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in Python programming with hands-on experience in API development and system integration.
• Experience working with REST APIs, including security protocols such as OAuth and token-based authentication.
• Expertise in Large Language Model-based AI solutions including prompt engineering and tool usage.
• Competent in designing end-to-end system workflows and troubleshooting complex multi-component applications.

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with agentic AI frameworks like LangChain or Semantic Kernel.
• Experience with cloud environments, particularly Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques.
• Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Basic skills in frontend/UI development for internal tooling.
• Experience with payroll systems and MS Office suite.

• Successful integration of AI solutions within payroll systems resulting in automation-driven reduction of manual tasks.
• Internal team members are effectively trained and transitioned into AI-related roles.
• Established scalable, reusable AI solution frameworks embedded into operations.
