Role Summary

In this role, Sales Associates focus on delivering fast, friendly service by actively engaging customers to understand their needs and offer help. Associates emphasize expert knowledge of their department’s products, explaining features and suggesting complementary items to complete project needs. Every customer in the department is greeted, engaged, and thanked, with the ability to provide basic assistance in nearby departments. Customer service and resolving customer needs are top priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service by following The Home Depot’s GET model: Greeting, Engaging, and Thanking customers.
• Proactively seek out customers throughout the store and guide them to appropriate merchandise across all departments.
• Ask open-ended questions regarding customers’ projects to assess their needs and expertise.
• Promote additional services such as Special Services, Tool Rental, Pro Desk, and Pro Services, recommending their usage when appropriate.
• Drive sales by discussing product options ranging from economical to premium and suggesting related products or services from other departments.
• Educate customers about their entire projects, helping them make informed decisions.
• Utilize empowerment programs to resolve customer issues effectively.
• Perform daily stock maintenance ensuring all products are properly labeled, displayed neatly, and the area is clean.
• Continuously update and maintain knowledge about all products in own and adjacent departments.
• Proactively seek to learn more about products and services offered.
• Follow all safety and loss prevention policies and procedures diligently.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Work schedule is flexible and may include evenings and weekends.
• Work conditions include a warehouse setting that might be dusty and noisy.
• Doors may frequently be open, resulting in drafts and fluctuating interior temperatures.
• Physical tasks involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving items.

Qualifications

• Must have at least a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Between one and two years of experience in retail or trade is considered an asset.

Additional Information

• No travel is required for this role.
• Direct reports to Department Supervisor.
• Interpersonal and effective communication skills are important competencies.
