Position Overview
The Login Clerk role is critical for establishing ALS’s presence and customer service quality throughout Northeastern Ontario. This position involves preparing bottle orders accurately for client deliveries, processing incoming samples, and maintaining high standards under tight deadlines within a fast-moving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet clients and courier personnel upon arrival at the sample receiving area.
- Prepare and package bottle orders and sample preservatives ready for shipment.
- Use appropriate courier services and protocols to ship samples reliably.
- Manage order prioritization, organization, and tracking efficiently.
- Inspect and verify bottle orders prepared by colleagues to catch any mistakes.
- Accept deliveries of lab supplies and distribute them to relevant departments.
- Handle return shipments for laboratory materials professionally.
- Conduct weekly inventory counts and maintain stock control of sample containers and associated supplies.
- Deliver late shipments personally to couriers or pertinent parties.
- Arrange shipment pickups and deliveries as needed.
- Investigate lost or delayed shipments and address customer claims promptly.
- Provide excellent customer service and clear communication to clients and couriers alike.
- Clean and maintain coolers after sample login activities.
- Ensure the sample receiving area remains tidy, organized, and professionally presentable at all times.
- Receive, unpack, and systematically arrange samples according to submission order.
- Verify sample labels for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks on the building and facilities.
- Offer general operational support to regional teams as required.
- Follow established internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and schedules, ensuring compliance with analytical quality standards.
- Adhere to ALS health and safety policies, including wearing required personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves.
- Perform additional duties assigned by supervisors or regional management.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Good proficiency in English communication including listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
- Basic competence in Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Fundamental computer skills to support sample processing tasks.
- Capability to accurately perform repetitive tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet strict deadlines like Turnaround Times (TAT) and sample holding requirements.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team structure.
- Reliable work ethic with a readiness to manage diverse tasks and responsibilities.
- A dedication to maintaining high standards and focusing on client satisfaction.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds (approximately 23 kilograms) for short distances.
- Extensive walking, bending, kneeling, and physical movement throughout the work shift.
- Manual dexterity for detailed and repetitive tasks.
- Mandatory use of personal protective equipment such as gloves and dust masks when required.
- Potential exposure to unpleasant odors inherent to sample handling.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts including days, afternoons, graveyard shifts, and weekends as ALS operates around the clock.
