Job description
Role Overview
As a Localization Specialist, you will be responsible for transforming Simplified Chinese game content into fluent, culturally adaptive English, preserving the original tone, humor, pacing, and character voices.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform creative transcreation and rigorous quality assurance on Chinese-to-English storylines, dialogue, events, quests, and UI text to ensure natural and idiomatic English adaptation.
- Manage and update linguistic assets such as terminology databases, style guides, character profiles, naming conventions, and translation memory systems to maintain consistency across versions and updates.
- Evaluate translations by both internal and external contributors, provide clear revision guidance, and develop standardized editorial practices for the team.
- Coordinate in-game language quality assurance for development and live operation builds, tracking and resolving linguistic issues promptly in line with release schedules.
- Collaborate with design, narrative, art, publishing, and other departments to identify and address target-market cultural sensitivities early in the development process.
Qualifications and Experience
- Native or near-native English fluency combined with strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Fluent reading and writing skills in Chinese with the ability to interpret nuanced source material.
- Over 3 years of comprehensive experience in game localization or a related discipline, having contributed to at least one long-term live-operation title from launch through updates.
- Proficient in the complete localization workflow including CAT/TMS tools, terminology and translation memory management, LQA practices, and defect tracking.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity with the ability to move beyond literal translations to idiomatic and expressive rewrites, justifying editorial choices.
- Effective communication and scheduling aptitude, comfortable navigating cross-cultural and interdisciplinary team environments.
Additional Assets (Preferred)
- Experience with casual games or content targeting female audiences.
- Background in building localization systems or managing external vendor relationships.
- Familiarity with automated quality assurance and AI-assisted translation tools.
