Job description
Job Overview and Responsibilities
The role focuses on managing lifecycle and vulnerability programs related to network technologies within customer environments. Key duties include monitoring vendor advisories and security bulletins, analyzing device estates for impact, and assessing risks and remediation strategies. The professional will generate detailed reports to support governance and stakeholder updates, handle ITIL-compliant change processes, and prepare deployment readiness checks. Collaboration with vendors, design teams, and customer stakeholders is essential to verify fixes and upgrades. Additional responsibilities involve supporting incident and problem resolution activities aimed at permanent remediation of recurring faults, maintaining documentation and audit evidence, facilitating cross-skilling within teams, and providing support during 24x7 escalations when necessary.
Technical Expertise Required
- Hands-on configuration, troubleshooting, and lifecycle support of Cisco routers and switches in both enterprise and service provider settings.
- Proficient knowledge of Cisco routing and switching platforms such as ISR/ASR, Catalyst, Nexus, and ME series devices.
- Strong understanding of LAN/WAN technologies including MPLS, L3VPN, IPv6, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, IS-IS, as well as route filtering, redistribution, summarisation, QoS, and Policy Based Routing.
- Familiarity with network security products including firewalls and Network Access Control (NAC) from various vendors.
- Good grasp of IP services like DHCP, DNS, ARP, RADIUS, TACACS, SMTP, and WCCP.
- Experience in evaluating network software releases such as IOS, IOS-XE, and NX-OS for bug fixes, vulnerability patches, and lifecycle compliance.
- Capability to interpret vendor advisories including Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs), severity levels, and end-of-support notices.
- Hands-on experience with vulnerability and lifecycle tracking, risk assessment, change coordination, validation, and operational handover procedures.
- Working knowledge of IT Service Management tools like ServiceNow or Remedy and adherence to ITIL-aligned incident, problem, and change management practices.
- Strong analytical skills to correlate network inventories, configurations, software versions, and capacity data against vulnerability risks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills to present technical proposals and facilitate collaboration across teams and vendors.
