About the Position

We are seeking a Licensed Millwright Mechanic to join our team at McCain Foods in Coaldale, Alberta. This full-time role involves maintenance, operation, and repair of manufacturing equipment, supporting safe and efficient production processes. The role reports directly to the Mechanical Supervisor and requires adherence to strict manufacturing standards including GMP, safety, and hygiene protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work rotating shifts including days and nights to support continuous operations.
  • Collaborate proactively with the team to identify and resolve safety, food safety, and equipment efficiency risks.
  • Detect, document, and report repair needs and potential issues during routine duties.
  • Report any HACCP-related food safety risks promptly.
  • Participate actively in team meetings as required.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, lubrication, welding, fabrication, and repair on machinery and equipment.
  • Diagnose and fix worn or defective mechanical components.
  • Communicate information effectively to supervisors, colleagues, and subordinates via telephone, email, or in person.
  • Keep current with technical knowledge and apply new skills to job duties.
  • Test, calibrate, regulate, and fine-tune mechanical equipment.
  • Manage time efficiently for self and others.
  • Inspect equipment, structures, and materials to determine causes of malfunctions or defects.
  • Work closely with production and maintenance teams to minimize downtime and maintain line operations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of shop and work areas.
  • Effectively communicate emergency or urgent repair issues verbally.
  • Follow GMP, Safety, and HACCP operating procedures consistently.
  • Promote continuous improvement in workplace safety practices.
  • Ensure compliance with established equipment safety standards and workplace safety procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as business needs dictate.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must hold a full Industrial Millwright license with experience in manufacturing or process industries.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, P&IDs, equipment manuals, and related documentation.
  • Practical knowledge of machinery and tools including design, repair, and maintenance.
  • Strong logical reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and problem approaches.
  • Capability to select and utilize appropriate training and instructional methods for learning and teaching.
  • Competence in controlling equipment operations.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP for daily work tracking.
  • Ability to build respectful, constructive, and cooperative working relationships.
  • Strong comprehension of written and oral information.
  • Excellent concentration and focus over extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity in handling, installing, and manipulating materials and equipment.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting wage of $52.48 CAD per hour, with additional bonus eligibility and shift differentials where applicable.
