Job description
Overview
The Department of Education in Western Australia is establishing a pool of candidates for Library Officer roles available as permanent or fixed-term positions, both full-time and part-time, starting through 2026 and extending until the end of Term 3, 2027. Positions will be offered as vacancies arise during this period.
These roles are based at Balcatta Senior High School, located in Perth's northern suburbs. The school operates as an Independent Public School, focusing on inclusive education and community responsiveness to enhance student success.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing clerical assistance and library support, including preparing correspondence and booking facilities.
- Maintaining an orderly and safe library environment, which involves upkeep of library equipment, displays, repairing damaged books, and properly covering new books.
- Managing library systems, updating records accurately, including new resource additions, item deletion or archiving, and barcoding.
- Processing loans and returns efficiently to ensure resource availability for students, staff, and parents.
- Serving as the main point of contact for library inquiries and helping patrons locate resources.
- Handling monetary transactions following departmental policies when required.
Candidate Requirements
- Must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid visa with appropriate work rights for the appointment duration.
- Obtain a valid Working With Children Check prior to employment.
- Consent to and pass a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check with a Screening Clearance from the Department's Screening Unit.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in customer service.
- Show good interpersonal skills with the capacity to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to provide administrative support and effectively organize and prioritize tasks.
