Job description
About the Role
The Department of Education, Western Australia, is assembling a pool of Cleaners for potential permanent and fixed-term full-time and part-time positions arising during the 2026 academic year through to the end of Term 3, 2027. Possibilities to hire will be open throughout this period. The positions support Hocking Primary School, an Independent Public School known for its strong community ties and modern learning facilities, including connected interactive whiteboards and wireless infrastructure.
Hocking Primary School embodies its motto 'Honour, Persist, Succeed,' focusing on respect, persistence, and resilience in lifelong learning within a safe, engaging educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will handle a variety of cleaning tasks across internal and external school areas, including maintaining carpets, hard flooring, toilets, furniture, fixtures, windows, dusting, and waste disposal. During school vacations, duties expand to include vinyl floor stripping and sealing, carpet shampooing, and veranda pressure cleaning. Additionally, reporting any faults, maintenance needs, or incidents to supervisors in a timely manner is essential to keeping facilities compliant with departmental and occupational safety standards.
Eligibility and Training
Candidates must hold or be willing to obtain a valid Working With Children Check and consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, securing a Screening Clearance Number prior to starting. Applicants must be Australian/New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, or have a valid visa with appropriate work rights for the appointment duration. Additional eligibility and training criteria are detailed in the associated Job Description Form.
Commitment to Diversity
The Department is dedicated to fostering an inclusive workforce reflecting the diversity of the Western Australian community. Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, youth, individuals with disabilities, diverse sexualities and genders, and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged. More details are available in the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan 2021-2025.
Application Process
Applicants should submit a CV/resume outlining work history, relevant experience, and qualifications alongside a cover letter describing a cleaning example. The example must detail the cleaning steps taken, chemicals and equipment used, and safety measures applied. Applications are accepted online only before the closing deadline: 4:30 pm (AWST) Monday, 24 August 2026. Late submissions will not be considered. Technical support for application submission is available via the Department’s Recruitment team.
