Librarian

Job Overview

The Librarian serves as the chief head of the University Library, taking charge of delivering sufficient and up-to-date informational resources to back the University's academic, learning, and research goals. Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, the Librarian supervises the University Library's management and adheres to the University's statutes regarding additional duties.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possess a postgraduate degree in library or information science or related fields; a PhD in this discipline is considered an asset.
• Have a minimum of six years’ experience serving as a Deputy Librarian or an equivalent role in a university or similar organization.
• Demonstrate familiarity with library management or records software aligned with the University's mission and vision.
• Be an active scholar and a member of a professional librarianship/information science body.
• Hold at least 15 cumulative scholarly publications.
• Show proven leadership abilities to inspire, guide, and manage library staff effectively.
• Exhibit strong dedication, leadership qualities, and excellent organizational skills.
• Manage the library's budget to ensure sufficient and relevant resources are available for faculty and students.
• Guarantee fair and equitable access to resources, services, and facilities in both physical and virtual library spaces.
• Be proficient in computer use.
• Be capable of serving a full four-year term without reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.

Terms of Appointment

• This full-time appointment spans an initial four-year term, with possible renewal for another four-year term or part thereof based on performance.
• Compensation and employment conditions are competitive and align with similar university roles in Ghana.
