Lean Engineer

Position Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Lean Engineer to join our project team in Doha, Qatar. This role focuses on the application of Lean Construction techniques and continuous improvement processes aimed at boosting project efficiency, cutting down waste, optimizing workflows, and increasing productivity throughout various project facets.

Educational Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related fields is necessary.
• Qualifications such as BSc, BEng, BA, or an equivalent credential are highly desirable.
• Certifications in Lean, Lean Six Sigma, or similar methodologies will be considered an advantage.

Experience Requirements

• At least 10 years of overall professional work experience.
• A minimum of 5 years specifically in Lean Construction, project improvement, or construction project management roles.
• Experience implementing Lean principles on large construction, infrastructure, or development projects is preferred.
• Previous involvement in Qatar or GCC projects will be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and deploy Lean Construction strategies and continuous improvement programs aligned with project goals.
• Identify inefficiencies, delays, bottlenecks, and waste within project activities and implement relevant Lean methodologies to enhance workflow, productivity, and resource use.
• Lead and facilitate Last Planner System practices including pull planning, look-ahead planning, and weekly work planning meetings.
• Collaborate with project management, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and site personnel to streamline processes.
• Conduct site visits and process reviews regularly to uncover improvement opportunities.
• Track project performance versus plans, and coordinate corrective measures where needed.
• Support the deployment of Value Stream Mapping and additional process optimization efforts.
• Manage Lean workshops, training, and awareness raising events for project teams.
• Drive a culture centered on continuous improvement and cooperative problem solving.
• Monitor KPIs related to productivity, workflow, quality, and overall project outcomes.
• Help project teams minimize waste types such as rework, waiting, excess motion, overproduction, and inefficient procedures.
• Promote inter-disciplinary coordination to reduce construction conflicts and improve flow.
• Document best practices, lessons learned, and improvement success stories.
• Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on Lean implementation status and potential opportunities.
• Work closely with planning and project control units to synchronize Lean initiatives with schedules and milestones.
• Advocate for standard work protocols and ongoing process enhancements.
• Assess the impact of implemented improvements and recommend further refinement.

Required Skills

• Deep expertise in Lean Construction concepts and execution methods.
• Hands-on experience with Last Planner System, Pull Planning, Look-Ahead Planning, Value Stream Mapping, and continuous improvement techniques.
• Strong grasp of construction workflows and project processes.
• Ability to analyze and improve processes effectively.
• Proven facilitation skills, excellent communication, and capable stakeholder management.
• Familiarity with project planning, productivity tracking, and performance metrics.
• Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
• Collaborative approach working with multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant project/task management software.
