Lead Software Engineer - Java, AWS, Scala

About the Role

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will design and develop software to enrich and cleanse datasets representing hundreds of millions of places and points of interest featured in our world-class global mapping products. Your responsibilities will span the entire software development lifecycle, including enhancing system performance, maintaining production stability, and collaborating closely with diverse engineering teams. Additionally, you will promote best coding practices and mentor fellow team members.

Main Duties

• Rapidly assimilate new programming languages and technologies such as Java, Scala, and Python.
• Develop and uphold tools and processes facilitating development, automated testing, and deployment of software components.
• Utilize coding assistants like GitHub Copilot and AWS Kiro to streamline development.
• Enhance configuration management tools related to software components.
• Design and execute approved test plans, analyze outcomes, and report findings when necessary.
• Break down requirements ensuring testability and provide feedback during the requirements gathering stage.
• Engage with users and customers to support software acceptance procedures and act as a communication bridge between the user base and development teams.
• Implement algorithms for automated feature extraction and dataset augmentation, optimize the runtime of neural network models, and build abstractions for AI/ML methodologies.
• Perform low-level performance tuning and optimization of deep learning systems.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or an equivalent field.
• Have at least 8 years of professional experience in software development.
• Demonstrate strong hands-on expertise in Java and/or Scala programming coupled with backend architecture design, messaging systems, and related frameworks.
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
• Proven ability in processing large-scale data using Apache Spark or PySpark.
• In-depth knowledge of RESTful web services, JSON and XML formats, as well as SOA and microservices architectures.
• Solid proficiency in database management systems and SQL, especially PostgreSQL and PostGIS.
• Capability to translate business objectives and architectural designs into high-quality, consistent software solutions.
• Commitment to writing reusable, flexible, and reliable code aligned with best programming practices.
• Strong quality assurance mindset, including unit testing, performance testing, and creating testable code structures.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
