Role Overview

The Lead Machine Learning Engineer will be a pivotal individual contributor within the AI/ML team, developing cutting-edge solutions in computer vision, natural language processing (NLP), and document understanding. This role involves building production-grade machine learning models that enhance personalized and automated experiences within the Docusign Agreement Platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the team to research, develop, test, and evaluate new and existing deep learning methodologies applicable to contract-related problems.
• Implement advanced architectures and technologies to address complex NLP challenges such as semantic retrieval, text understanding, contextual extraction, summarization, and representation learning.
• Apply computer vision techniques for document tasks including layout analysis, object detection, image classification, and tagging.
• Gain deep understanding of relevant technologies, methods, and architectural components within Docusign products.
• Enhance and maintain model training pipelines, evaluation routines, and online inference mechanisms, including defining performance metrics and designing user feedback systems for AI/ML features.
• Partner closely with engineering teams to deploy scalable AI systems, monitor model performance, and optimize solutions.
• Work with Product Management to translate user needs and requirements into robust, scalable machine learning designs suitable across customer segments.

Work Arrangement

This position operates under a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of two days per week onsite in Dublin. The schedule may vary but includes weekly in-office attendance as a baseline. Docusign reserves the right to adjust this designation depending on business requirements and applicable laws.

Candidate Profile

Basic Qualifications:

• At least 12 years of relevant professional experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 8 years with a Master’s degree, or 5 years post-PhD, or equivalent.
• Demonstrable expertise in designing, implementing, deploying, and monitoring advanced machine learning and deep learning models.
• Proficient programming skills with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar deep learning frameworks.
• Strong fluency in Python.
• Academic background in Computer Science, Physics, Statistics, Econometrics, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, or a related computational discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proven experience deploying large-scale document understanding models in a production setting.
• Hands-on skills integrating multi-modal approaches combining computer vision and NLP.
• Familiarity with contemporary NLP methodologies including large language models (LLMs) and advanced language representations.
• Expertise in text extraction leveraging OCR and direct extraction from formats such as DOCX, image files, and PDFs.
• Strong commitment to continuous learning, staying abreast of emerging industry trends and innovations.
• Extensive experience handling large, varied structured and unstructured datasets including data collection, cleaning, sampling, and processing.
