Job description

Role Overview

Join Cloud Imperium Games' Manchester studio as a Lead Graphics Programmer, advancing cutting-edge rendering technologies for an expansive sandbox universe. Your work will range from simulating interstellar phenomena to rendering intricate details like human hair. You'll develop photo-realistic lighting models, eye and lens simulations, shader compilation, content streaming, and a multi-threaded, cross-API rendering engine using the latest PC hardware and APIs, powering some of the most ambitious game projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Steer the technical vision for graphics and rendering systems within your domain.
  • Lead research and implementation of advanced graphics technologies and toolsets.
  • Take ownership of major rendering features and systems from conception through delivery and maintenance.
  • Review and enhance existing graphics technologies through analysis and refactoring.
  • Supervise a team of graphics programmers, managing performance assessments, development plans, and daily support.
  • Organize workload and priorities in collaboration with production and engineering leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with art, design, and engineering teams to align technical solutions with visual objectives.
  • Support other software developers in graphics/rendering usage and troubleshooting complex bugs.
  • Profile and optimize the rendering pipeline, including lighting and shading subsystems.
  • Establish technical standards, workflows, and performance goals for the rendering team.
  • Stay informed of the latest graphics rendering techniques and tools to foster innovation and plan feature delivery.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Mastery of C++ within extensive shared codebases, including architecture design, code review, and performance-sensitive system development.
  • Solid experience with shader programming languages and contemporary graphics APIs.
  • Deep understanding of 3D rendering principles, mathematics, and pipeline optimization.
  • Proven track record managing significant graphics or engine subsystems.
  • Experience leading engineering teams, conducting performance management, and supporting career growth.
  • Strong debugging skills to effectively diagnose and resolve complex software issues.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across multidisciplinary teams.
