Overview

Join a pioneering and innovative team as a Lead Geomorphologist at WSP Canada, focusing on guiding the understanding and management of complex natural systems. Your expertise will influence sustainable development and ecosystem protection initiatives across Western Canada, contributing to community resilience and environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead fluvial and coastal geomorphology tasks throughout multidisciplinary projects, from initial proposals to final delivery.
  • Drive business expansion by strategic planning, cultivating client relationships, and broadening service offerings.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of erosion mechanisms, debris flows, sediment dynamics, and fluvial/coastal formations to resolve intricate issues.
  • Direct process-based strategies for river and shoreline restoration as well as natural hazard mitigation.
  • Provide technical leadership in geoscience evaluations supporting geo-environmental impact assessments and the design of major surface water infrastructure.
  • Support detailed engineering and construction phases by preparing technical specifications, budget estimates, and interpreting geomorphic data.
  • Lead and work collaboratively with diverse teams while overseeing project scope, budget management, and scheduling.
  • Mentor and develop professionals across all experience levels, enhancing team capabilities and preparing for succession.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Advanced degree (preferably Master’s) in Physical Geography, Earth Science, or related disciplines.
  • Professional Geoscientist registration or eligibility within six months in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Northwest Territories.
  • At least 10 years of consulting or comparable experience, with a proven track record in client development.
  • Extensive expertise with fluvial, coastal, hillslope processes, debris flow, and flood event dynamics.
  • Strong background in water resource and hydrotechnical projects including geohazard analysis, sediment transport, erosion control, and nature-based techniques.
  • Demonstrated leadership with excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and talent development capabilities.
  • Experience conducting field investigations, overseeing construction site inspections, mentoring juniors, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Proven success in supporting early and mid-career professionals growth.

Compensation

Salary ranges vary based on geographic location and qualifications:
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $110,600 - $146,500
MB & ON: $100,900 - $139,000
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $99,900 - $132,700
