About the Role
Take a leadership role as a Lead Geomorphologist where you will apply your expertise to analyze complex natural systems and develop sustainable solutions that enhance communities and protect ecosystems in Western Canada. This position involves technical direction, business development, team leadership, and mentoring within a multidisciplinary engineering and science environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead fluvial and coastal geomorphology projects from proposals to completion.
- Drive business growth via strategic planning, client relationship building, and expanding services.
- Apply specialized knowledge on erosion, debris flows, sediment transport, and morphology to address complex challenges.
- Oversee river and shoreline restoration efforts and natural hazard mitigation using process-based approaches.
- Provide technical guidance for geoscience analyses related to geo-environmental assessments and surface water infrastructure design.
- Support detailed design and construction phases by developing technical standards, costing, and geomorphic interpretations.
- Manage multidisciplinary project teams, budgets, scopes, and schedules.
- Mentor team members at all experience levels to cultivate talent and succession planning.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced degree in Physical Geography, Earth Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Geoscientist in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, or Northwest Territories within 6 months.
- At least 10 years of consulting or equivalent experience, demonstrating successful client relationship development.
- Expertise in fluvial, coastal, and hillslope processes including debris flows and flood events.
- Extensive background in water resources, hydrotechnical projects, geohazard evaluations, sediment transport, erosion control, and nature-based solutions.
- Proven leadership skills with strong problem-solving, collaboration, and team-building capabilities.
- Experience performing fieldwork, construction inspections, and supervising junior staff while maintaining safety standards.
- Track record of mentoring junior and intermediate professionals effectively.
Compensation
Salary range varies by region and qualifications:
AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $110,600 - $146,500 CAD
MB & ON: $100,900 - $139,000 CAD
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $99,900 - $132,700 CAD
The final salary will depend on education, experience, location, and other factors and may be subject to change.
