Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced people leader to head our Building Structures Team within the Property and Buildings Sector based in Auckland. This role involves driving client engagement, fostering business development activities, and leading project delivery with a strong focus on team leadership and technical excellence. You will support strategic goals and be pivotal in the growth and management of structural engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Building Structures Team, delivering on strategic objectives for the Property and Buildings Sector.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Structures to implement the business plan and achieve wider sector goals.
  • Engage actively with clients to build durable relationships and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Coach and technically develop Structural Engineers primarily based in Auckland, with occasional support for other regional offices.
  • Serve as Project Manager or Director on assigned projects, ensuring alignment with client objectives.
  • Oversee project execution, ensuring completion within budget, schedule, and quality standards to realize planned profits.
  • Manage project administration including client reporting, invoicing, and compliance with accounting and quality systems.
  • Organize and coordinate building engineering tasks and interdisciplinary activities to meet technical and client satisfaction targets.
  • Advise on training needs, resource allocation, quality assurance, and deliverable standards within the structures group.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess a tertiary degree related to Structural Engineering or Project Delivery.
  • Hold Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or an equivalent accreditation.
  • Bring at least 10 years of experience in buildings engineering, with significant expertise in seismic design.
  • Have a strong commercial orientation combined with extensive senior project management experience.
  • Demonstrate success in cultivating client pipelines and business development within the sector.
  • Exhibit proven ability to forge strong client relationships.
  • Show leadership capabilities with experience managing and developing teams.

Time Allocation Expectations

  • Project and technical delivery: 60%
  • People management: 20%
  • Client engagement and business development: 20%
