Immersve operates globally as a Mastercard issuer, partnering primarily with cryptocurrency and fintech companies. Together, they issue Mastercard cards backed by blockchain-based funds, allowing users to spend in the real world similar to traditional bank Mastercard cards. While their partners provide the user base and wallets, Immersve manages the card program, issuing processes, scheme integration, and compliance frameworks. The platform bridges the complexities of blockchains, card schemes, and financial regulations—domains developed independently—which requires original problem-solving and foundational engineering.

Role Overview

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will craft and implement data-driven solutions that serve both internal and external stakeholders. Your responsibilities include clearly communicating data insights and their business implications. You will work closely with senior leadership and a proficient engineering team in a collaborative remote-first New Zealand-based environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and develop data pipelines, visualizations, and data products integrating cardholder behavior, transactions, financial metrics (especially unit economics), and KYC/AML data.
• Create dashboards, reports, and extract data tables that address vital business questions.
• Drive the evaluation and adoption of new tools and technologies to enhance data capabilities.
• Promote and maintain high standards of data quality across engineering and business functions.
• Identify critical insights that enable scalable product delivery within a tightly regulated industry.
• Document and institutionalize best practices including performance, automated, load, acceptance, and non-technical testing.
• Support continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) initiatives for efficient and reliable data delivery pipelines.
• Develop test cases and conduct testing, as well as mentor others in testing methodologies.
• Track and analyze key performance metrics to evaluate the success of data engineering efforts.

Candidate Profile

You are a dedicated team player with proven expertise in data engineering and successful data insight initiatives. You have the confidence and experience to modify Node.js applications to capture missing or new data points. Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement capabilities are essential. You demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and familiarity with modern software delivery tools and agile methodologies. You thrive in fast-paced, cross-functional teams.

Preferred qualifications include experience working on large-scale international projects with extensive user bases, as well as a solid understanding of financial services, payment processing, and issuing-as-a-service models. You embrace continuous delivery philosophies, contributing to system design and mentoring junior engineers.

Technical Environment

• Business Intelligence tools, e.g., AWS Quicksight
• Databases such as DynamoDB, SQL OLTP and OLAP systems including Clickhouse and Redshift
• Data pipelines, ETL processes, and streaming data technologies such as Kinesis
• Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript development

Hiring Procedure

The selection process involves two interviews separated by a technical task. The first stage is a general interview followed by a technical assignment. A second interview reviews the assignment and covers in-depth technical questions.
