Overview
The Lead Compliance and Controls Officer is tasked with establishing, maintaining, and advancing a strong framework for compliance and controls within the organization. This role is essential in ensuring that the company strictly adheres to regulatory mandates, internal policies, and industry standards. By spearheading rigorous compliance programs and proactive guidance, the officer helps protect the company’s reputation and reduce operational risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement compliance policies and procedures through collaboration with various teams to suit the specific environment and operations of Qatar Duty Free.
- Conduct routine audits and compliance evaluations to verify adherence to policies and provide timely reports to senior leadership.
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize risks related to compliance, operations, finance, fraud, and reputation, developing effective mitigation strategies.
- Support audit processes by liaising with internal, external, and governmental auditors, ensuring timely provision of necessary documentation.
- Develop and conduct comprehensive compliance training programs in conjunction with the training department to instill a culture of integrity and ethical conduct.
- Lead or assist in investigations regarding compliance breaches or unethical behavior, proposing corrective actions and preventing recurrence.
- Continuously enhance internal controls to improve risk management, operational efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Keep current with changes in regulations, industry trends, and emerging risks pertinent to travel retail and advise management on necessary actions.
- Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and external partners for best practice sharing and information exchange.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements, automation, and innovations within the compliance function to boost operational efficiency.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the department head.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 4 years of relevant work experience, preferably in retail (travel retail a plus), food & beverage, or auditing.
- Proven capability in developing, executing, and reviewing policies and procedural documents.
- Strong analytical aptitude, meticulous attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities across different organizational levels.
- Skilled in drafting policies and procedures with discretion in handling confidential information and maintaining professionalism.
- Proficient in MS Office and fluent in English.
