About the Role
Join a leading edge AI team as a Lead Applied AI Engineer based in Sydney or Melbourne with a hybrid work arrangement. The company is recognized globally with presence across EMEA, APAC, and North America and is backed by OpenAI. The position demands Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
You will take charge of pioneering AI solutions by deploying frontier AI technologies into production, actively shaping the future interaction between humans, businesses, and AI. This role offers challenging problems with significant ownership and the chance to stay hands-on in engineering.
What You Will Do
- Lead enterprise AI projects focusing on agentic systems, tool integrations, large language model orchestration, evaluation, retrieval, APIs, and complex enterprise implementations.
- Collaborate directly with clients to accurately understand their needs, question initial assumptions, and deliver tailored AI solutions.
- Mentor engineering teams and develop successful deployment patterns to be reused globally.
- Drive projects end-to-end from ambiguous concepts through architecture, construction, testing, and production deployment.
Key Requirements
- Profound knowledge of Python programming and solid software engineering principles.
- Proven experience in building and launching production-ready large language model, generative AI, and agentic systems.
- Strong capabilities in architecture design and system engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technically while remaining actively involved in coding and design.
- Comfortable engaging directly with customers and senior-level stakeholders.
- Track record of progressing from unclear problem definitions to fully deployed solutions.
- Dedicated to software testing, evaluation, system reliability, and maintainability.
- Commercial awareness, inquisitive mindset, and readiness to challenge conventional wisdom.
