Job description

Position Overview

This role is responsible for maintaining the laundry department's operations and ensuring its continuous and efficient performance. The Laundry Attendant must be familiar with laundry equipment operation and collaborate closely with Housekeeping and Patient Care Assistants to maintain sufficient inventory levels supplied to patient floors promptly.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop appropriate washing formulas for stained and soiled patient garments and linens.
  • Separate soiled patient clothing and linens according to product type.
  • Verify that laundering meets quality standards before restocking inventory.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the relevant personnel.
  • Propose strategies to improve laundry workflow efficiency.
  • Arrange and organize patient clothing and linens by type, preparing them on carts or in bags for return to patient rooms or storage racks.
  • Accurately fold clothing, linens, and terry cloth items to maintain a neat, pristine appearance.
  • Operate effectively within a fast-paced environment adhering to timing and production standards.
  • Adapt to flexible working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Maintain a positive, friendly demeanor towards clients and fellow staff members.
  • Manage multiple laundry machines simultaneously using appropriate detergents and products.
  • Ensure the proper quantity of linens is prepared and readily available to client floors, preventing shortages in housekeeping storage.

Educational and Physical Requirements

  • Secondary school diploma is preferred.
  • Physical stamina required, including standing for extended periods and lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and a professional attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Experience

Previous experience in laundry or dry cleaning operations is desired, ideally in a clinical or institutional environment.
