About the Role
This vacancy is for a full-time, permanent Kitchen Porter position based in Somerset at an independent co-educational day and boarding school serving approximately 1,300 students daily. The role entails working during a 43-week contract across 40 hours per week and includes working seven days a week with additional weekend duties related to residential activities for boarders. The site features an extensive campus with excellent facilities in the heart of the Somerset countryside.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain exceptional cleanliness and hygiene standards within the kitchen environment.
- Clean and care for all kitchen equipment, including heavy catering machines and air filter and extraction systems, following provided instructions and proper cleaning procedures.
- Operate industrial dishwashers efficiently.
- Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks when required.
- Support the team in all pot washing duties to help ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience as a kitchen porter is preferred, although candidates without direct experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Positive "can do" attitude with effective organizational skills.
- Good verbal communication skills and a sound understanding of spoken English.
- A reasonable level of written English and reading ability.
- Experience in customer service or a food preparation setting is advantageous.
- Strong team player mentality with commitment to excellent customer service.
