Job Overview
We are seeking a Key Account Manager to serve as the pivotal link between our clients and internal laboratory teams. This role involves overseeing the smooth handling of samples, managing service delivery logistics, and ensuring effective communication from receipt through dispatch. The position focuses on fortifying client relations, fostering business expansion, and promoting SGS's environmental testing services within the Newcastle and Hunter regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary liaison for key environmental clients in Newcastle and the Hunter region.
- Manage the logistics of sample receipt, registration, labeling, storage, and dispatch to ensure efficient lab operations.
- Communicate with clients regarding sample statuses, turnaround times, and any potential service impacts.
- Collaborate closely with laboratory, operations, and management teams to track service quality and address client requirements.
- Identify and cultivate new business prospects, support client engagements, and contribute to growth strategies.
- Develop, prepare, and follow up on quotations and tender submissions aligning with company goals.
- Establish and maintain strong, lasting relationships with current and potential clients.
- Monitor client activities, revenue patterns, and opportunities to upsell or cross-sell our offerings.
- Provide valuable market insights, gather client feedback, and report emerging trends to inform business decisions.
- Participate in field activities including site visits, sample collection, and marine sampling when necessary.
- Offer support for basic laboratory testing and associated tasks as required.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure all operations comply with SGS’s quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- Scientific diploma or degree, or equivalent experience in relevant fields.
- Prior experience in environmental laboratory or client-facing services.
- Background in business development, quoting, or account management is highly advantageous.
- Valid driver's license with willingness to travel locally.
- Experience in high-throughput laboratory environments is preferred.
- Proficient in common computer applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is preferred.
