Kennel Attendant

About the Role

Join our team at Bide Awhile Animal Shelter as a Kennel Attendant, where you will be integral in providing daily care and support for animals from their arrival through to adoption. This hands-on position requires you to be very familiar with each animal's unique traits, behaviors, and needs, and to effectively communicate these to the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive daily care duties including feeding, administering medication, and basic grooming of shelter animals.
• Closely observe animals to detect any indications of health issues, injuries, stress, or other concerns.
• Maintain cleanliness of cages, tools, and workstations to uphold health and safety standards.
• Keep detailed and accurate records regarding animal health, treatments, and behavior using our animal management software.
• Share observations and any concerns with fellow staff members.
• Collaborate productively with team members, volunteers, adopters, and the public.
• Take on other tasks as assigned to support shelter operations.

Candidate Profile

• Comfortable working with diverse animals and understanding their behavior.
• Dependable and observant with the ability to function independently or within a team.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Physically capable of lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to stay composed and flexible in a fast-paced shelter setting.
• Available to work on evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Work involves outdoor duties in various weather conditions.
• Ability to handle frequent interruptions and priority changes during shifts.
• Having a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle access is advantageous.
